Done properly, so the result holds up
Set up
The monitor goes on the lowest lived-in level, away from kitchens, bathrooms, sumps and vents, and the home is checked before the test starts.
Closed house
Windows stay shut and doors are used only for coming and going. Notices are posted, and exhaust fans are kept to a minimum.
72 hours
The monitor records radon hourly for three days. Signs of interference void the test, and it's repeated.
Report
Your report is ready when the test ends: the result in Bq/m³, test times, device and placement details, and next steps.
A screening test, and what comes next
A short-term test gives a fast, reliable snapshot for a sale. Radon levels change with the seasons, so C-NRPP and Health Canada strongly recommend a long-term test of at least 3 months once you've moved in.
If the result is high, it's fixable. Most mitigation systems are installed in a day and come with a year of Radon Shield™ monitoring.
